procrastination is

Whether we realize it or not, everyone procrastinate .Procrastination means put off something, to do something else. Unfortunately, how much we put an effort on it, it is impossible to avoid procrastination. The best way we can do is to manage it well rather than cure it. There are three types of procrastination which are work on nothing, work on something less important and work on something more important.

Work on nothing is one of the three types of procrastination. Most of this type of procrastinators do not did anything in order to overcome their fear. Variety of character can be build up throughout procrastination ( Tsar,2005). Many people in general procrastinate because of the anxiety associated with starting or completing any task or action. Fear of failure is one of the factors that cause procrastination. They always believe that they lack the necessary skills to perform the task. They are scared that particular piece of work is not going turn out well if they work on it. So, they choose to avoid working on it in order to overcome feeling the fear. In other hand, procrastinators who work on nothing actually are those that are unable to manage their time wisely. They are even not certain of their priorities, goals and objectives of doing the work. For example, most students prefer to hang out with their friends, gossips, clubbing, and etc rather than finishing up their assignment. Sometimes, too many tasks also make this type of procrastinators overwhelmed. They do not know what is suppose to be done and how to start it. So, when it comes to this, they will find out the way to release the stress and at the same time try to forget about the work.

The other type of procrastination is work on something less important. That means, they put off important things to do something less important. This is the dangerous form of procrastination because they do not realize it. “They are already getting things done, so it does not feel like procrastination”.(Graham,2008). The procrastinators that can be count in this type of procrastination is they who are ignoring important things as priorities. Important thing is usually something that is hard to implement. So, they think if they are starting focus on it from the beginning, they fear that they might waste their time if it is not going to turn out well. They do not happy work on it is the thing that make the works are complicated (Graham,2008). To them, it’s easier to work on small thing that are usually more casual and not too complicated than big ones. Phrases like, “I will do it tomorrow,” or “I still have a lot of time,” are examples of delaying work such as assignments to read the novel and so on. Moreover, this type of procrastinators do not know how to differentiate which is more important. They are sometimes confuse on what the real thing that they need to do first. In this case, usually an unproductive activity will be their options. For example, take too long to find the information about the assignment and read too much book to accomplish a short essay.

The last and the best types of procrastination is work on something more important. ‘Rate of procrastination among college students have been reported to be between 46% and 95%’(Longman,2009). Good procrastination is avoiding errands to do real work. Errands are so effective at interruping someone who is doing an important task which needs to be done. For an example, students who has decided to writing an assignment, suddenly found that the house need to cleaned. If student choose to postpone errands or delay cleaning the house to a later time, they are those who can procrastinate well. Doing academic assignments is most important activity that students should worry about rather than cleaning or other unproductive activities. The environment around us may be noisy, thus what we can do is to concentrate on the real work to do and ignore all the things that demand our attention. Break big jobs down into manageable tasks is one suggestion to overcome the problem of procrastination. Students who tend to procrastinate often find it is hard to get work done. ’Most of us procrastinate at times because procrastination brings temporary relief’(Longman,2009). In that case, procrastinators should trick themselves to catch some of the excitement radiating from the work, so that they can deal with it easier. Try to get involve with anti-procrastination person, keeping a journal or pick the most right tasks at the top of your list as an alternative ways to deal with this problem.‘To do good work, you need to do more than find good projects. Once you've found them, you have to get yourself to work on them’ (Graham,2008).

Procrastination is like many other things. It has its good and bad points, and its something that is imposible to cure. So the best solution to overcome it, is depend to yourself. In conclusion, start the experiment with whichever of the strategies that appeals to you. If you try something and it does not work, then try something else. The fact is procrastination does not mean that you are inherently lazy or inefficient person, but it is a habit that you can overcome if only you want to. There are three types of procrastination which are work on something more important, work on something less important, work on nothing.’ The key idea is that procrastinating does not mean doing absolutely nothing’(Perry,2007). Thus, a person has to be good at handle with it.
